Alfredo Casetti, MD is a general surgeon at the South Bend Clinic. He grew up in Trenton, Michigan. In 2001, Dr. Casetti and his family relocated to the Michiana area. As a family, they felt this would be a great place to settle down. The area also provided a lot of opportunities for the family. Even though he now calls Indiana home, his favorite sports teams are University of Michigan and the Detroit pro teams.
As a child, Dr. Casetti realized being a surgeon was something he wanted to do. It all started at the age of 11, when he first dissected an animal. The anatomy fascinated him and he has been hooked since. Once that decision was made, Dr. Casetti went on to study at the University of Michigan Medical School, followed by a residency at the University of Michigan Hospital. While in Ann Arbor, Dr. Casetti met his wife and they have been happily married for 23 years. They have been blessed with 3 children. The oldest, Rachel, is currently at Purdue studying Biological Engineering. In his free time, Dr. Casetti enjoys playing tennis with his wife and water activities with the whole family. Those include wake boarding and water skiing. His favorite food is “Grandma Gerri’s” spaghetti. Yum!
As a general surgeon, Dr. Casetti often meets his patients for the first time, when they have a life-threatening illness. One of the things he loves about being a doctor is following up with those patients, months after surgery, and finding them well and fully recovered. It is always rewarding. Dr. Casetti has a broad scope of interests as a surgeon. Those interests include advanced laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery and endocrine surgery including thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
Dr. Casetti believes that “within the next 20 years, we will see incurable diseases cured as we understand more about the molecular and genetic aspects of those diseases.”
